A monster calls by Patrick Ness and Siobhan Dowd review -annmarie

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness, Siobhan Dowd

At seven minutes past midnight, thirteen-year-old Conor wakes to find a monster outside his bedroom window. But it isn’t the monster Conor’s been expecting – he’s been expecting the one from his nightmare, the nightmare he’s had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments. The monster in his backyard is different. It’s ancient. And wild. And it wants something from Conor. Something terrible and dangerous. It wants the truth. From the final idea of award-winning author Siobhan Dowd – whose premature death from cancer prevented her from writing it herself – Patrick Ness has spun a haunting and darkly funny novel of mischief, loss, and monsters both real and imagined.

This book was a shocker it was nothing like I thought it would be but yet it was simply amazing.
Coner is the main character in this book I felt for him more then I have felt for any other character in my life. At thirteen years old he feels like the world hates him that he has the whole world seating on his shoulders. When the monsters comes any normal child would have been afraid but Coner is not scared his facing scary things in his life.

I think this book shows that sometimes the scariest things in life are not the monsters hiding under the bed or the ghost the real monsters are a the real life stuff that gives you nightmares and makes a child grow up before their time. This story was one like no other I felt like the boy was fighting his feeling all the time and that the monster had to show Coner the way to peace even if that mean letting go. The book was emotional and by the last few pages I was in tears.

Well written and the art is breath taken all together a wicked book
5 stars

A book that well leave you in tears it so good that you want believe it.
